Are you an international building a life in the Venlo region? Are you starting a family, or do you already care for (small) children? Raising a child in a new country can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re still finding your way in a different social system, language, and culture. That’s why we are hosting a special info evening for the international community in Venlo.
This session is designed for:
· Expecting parents
· Couples planning to have children
· Parents of young children (0–10 years)
· Anyone who wants to better understand the Dutch system of care and support for families
What you can expect
During this session, you will receive clear, practical information about how things work in the Netherlands when it comes to pregnancy, birth, early childhood, and parental support.
Annet Rutten, an experienced professional from the GGD, and Carolien Manders from local family support organisation Bij Ons Voor Elkaar will be on hand to answer questions and offer guidance on (among other things):
- Child development
- Health checks
- Vaccinations
- Support options for international families
You can also learn about everything the library does to support familes in their day to day lives from books and reading support, to information about benefits and local family services.
Our goal is to create a warm, accessible environment where internationals feel welcome, informed, and supported. You’ll also have the chance to meet other parents and build connections within the community.
The entire session will be held in English.
Bij Ons Voor Elkaar
When raising children, you may encounter worries or uncertainties as a parent or caregiver. Bij Ons Voor Elkaar is a team of youth and health professionals. We organize activities around Positive Health—because health is more than simply not being ill. We focus on strengthening resilience and the well-being of the entire family.

Hi, I’m Carolien, a family support worker at Bij Ons Voor Elkaar. I’ve been working with young people and families for 20 years. I know how tough parenting can be at times. That’s why I’m happy to give parents that extra bit of support.
About Annet from the GGD
Hello, I'm Annet, I work for GGD Limburg-Noord as a community nurse for children aged 0–4 years. GGD Limburg-Noord runs the regional child health clinic (consultatie bureau) which is freely accessible for all children. The GGD helps you monitor the growth of your child and can help answer any questions you may have about your child's development, vaccinations, or challenges you may encounter while parenting.

Participation is FREE - please register below so we know how many people to expect.
Who is it for? All international parents and caregivers in the greater Venlo area with young children. This session is particularly suitable for those looking to start a family, those having their first child, or those with children under 10 but everyone is welcome to come with their questions.
