Keti Koti: de ketenen verbroken

Op 30 juni en 1 juli 2026 vindt voor de tweede keer een tweedaags Keti Koti evenement in Venlo plaats, met daarnaast een randprogramma van 16 juni tot en met 29 juni 2026. Dit is het moment waarop we het slavernijverleden herdenken en de afschaffing ervan vieren.

Door middel van verhalen uit onze gedeelde geschiedenis, muziek, theater, film, spoken word, rituelen en traditionele hapjes creëren we samen wederom een betekenisvolle ruimte voor reflectie en verbinding.

Herdenking – dinsdag 30 juni 2026
Locatie: Maaspoort (Oude Markt 30)
Inloop: 19:00 uur
Aanvang: 19:30 uur

Een avond vol reflectie, verhalen en ontmoeting met een panelgesprek, expositie, spoken word, tori en de voorstelling KABITENI van Lloydscompany.

Viering – woensdag 1 juli 2026
Locatie: Limburgs Museum (Keulsepoort 5)
15:00 - 17:00 uur: werk mee aan het Limburgse wandkleed van Draden van ons Nederlandse slavernijverleden.
Vanaf 17:00 uur: cultureel programma met o.a. Drs. Sherida Pinas, waarna we in een gezamenlijke parade o.l.v. S.L.R. Brassband naar Café Montego Bay lopen. Host: Cedric Kenti.

Een feest van vrijheid, veerkracht en cultuur. Geniet van muziek, dans en traditioneel eten zoals Heri Heri.

Randprogramma
Van 16 juni t/m 1 juli 2026 vind je in de Stadsbibliotheek een leestafel over het slavernijverleden.
Op 23 juni 2026 vertoont De Nieuwe Scene de documentaire Bagasi met nadien een Q&A o.l.v. Cedric Kenti met maker Emma Lesuis.
Op 29 juni 2026 wordt Keti Koti thematisch verweven in WAT! for Dinner in Grenswerk.

Keti Koti Venlo is gratis toegankelijk en aanmelden is niet nodig, met uitzondering van WAT! for Dinner. Tickets hiervoor zijn via de website van Grenswerk te verkrijgen..

Keti Koti: breaking the chains

On June 30 and July 1 2026 a two-day Keti Koti event will take place in Venlo for the second time, accompanied by a side program from June 16 to June 29 2026. This is the moment we commemorate the history of slavery and celebrate its abolition.

Through stories from our shared history, music, theatre, film, spoken word, rituals and traditional snacks we once again create a meaningful space for reflection and connection.

Commemoration – Tuesday, June 30, 2026

An evening of reflection, stories, and connection featuring a panel discussion, exhibition, spoken word, tori (storytelling), and the performance KABITENI by Lloydscompany.

Celebration – Wednesday, July 1, 2026
Location: Limburgs Museum (Keulsepoort 5)
3:00 – 5:00 PM: Contribute to the Limburg tapestry Threads of Our Dutch Slavery Past.
From 5:00 PM: Cultural program featuring, among others, Drs. Sherida Pinas, followed by a joint parade led by S.L.R. Brassband to Café Montego Bay.

A celebration of freedom, resilience, and culture. Enjoy music, dance, and traditional food such as Heri Heri.

Side Program
From June 16 to July 1, 2026, a reading table on the history of slavery will be available at the central library (Stadsbibliotheek).
On June 23, 2026, De Nieuwe Scene will screen the documentary Bagasi, followed by a Q&A hosted by Cedric Kenti with filmmaker Emma Lesuis.
On June 29, 2026, the Keti Koti theme will be integrated into WAT! for Dinner at Grenswerk.

Keti Koti Venlo is free to attend and registration is not required, except for WAT! for Dinner. Tickets for this event are available via the website of Grenswerk..
